One thing I hope to gain from my college experience besides an education is connections. This is also one of the reasons I choose Kean as my school. With one of the highest diversity ratings in the nation I will become accustom to many different types of people over the years, hopefully building friendships that within a broad scope of majors and minors. Also with the sister campus in China the opportunity to branch out and gain more connections and friendships is exciting. This Is Marquis Major
What I hope to gain from college is just graduate. Just go through the four years (8 semesters) of college, graduate and hopefully have a successful job. But the one thing I am not gaining so far is living here. I thought living in college would be a huge step for me, but apparently it's too big of a step. I had trouble sleeping last night with an unhappy stomach, which probably meant I was homesick. So having second thoughts about living here, I may want to considering going back home, commuting here my classes via the train, and won't feel to scared here. While at home, I can still study there and on campus, while being in my comforting environment, which is home. I know that I should stay here to get used to this new experience, but being a guy of habit and routine, I rather go back to what I am used to doing, in the safety of my oyster.
I can understand the uneasy feelings that accompany the large scale changes of starting school and moving into a new location. This week of RAM T2K might help with the transition.
Besides a college education, I would like gain new skills or experience. Everyone says college is the best four years of their life, I would love to be able to say that. For example, I like to be able to get great opportunities in the future because I gained a lot of experiences throughout my college career. Whether it’s a job, internship, or research occupation any opportunity surrounding my career choice is incredible. Kean is diverse college with different people with different backgrounds as me, so besides experiencing things academically, I would like to gain experience by meeting new people who have different majors than me. I also want to learn how to balance a social life and a professional lifestyle. Karmena Tawfeek

In addition to gaining an education from college, I hope to gain the resources to help me succeed out of college. Resources such as knowing different people through internships or people I've meet throughout college. There are many different types of people at this school and I hope to make some new friends and maybe broaden my understanding of the world. I would also like to gain some better communicating skills (ex. professional looking emails) because communicating is just as important as the education because without communication skills what you learn will not really matter.
Besides an education, I hope to gain friendships and connections that last a lifetime. Kean University has so much to offer from clubs, activities, programs, jobs, athletics, etc. Throughout these four years I want to meet all different people of all different backgrounds. Also through my major I get to meet different people who share the same interest as me and we will get to do research together. I hope to gain more knowledge and information outside of the classroom to help me apply to the real world. I want to gain experiences that you can't gain through high school like studying abroad and internships. I also hope to discover who I really am. I want to become more independent and learn how to do things on my own. My goal is to experience at least one new thing every week. Kean University will guide me and help me gain more than just an education. This is Gina Healy.
What I hope to gain from college in addition to an education is to learn networking and making connections with other people, just to become a well rounded person and to put that into learning how to make opportunities for myself that can benefit my future. Since this is my first time on my own I hope to gain hacks and tips that I will need to succeed in these 6 years and post college life like time management. I also hope to gain a broader mindset on different cultures and I want learning new things. Next year, I’m giving myself the challenge to learn ASL (sign language) I believe that being culturally aware is so essential in today’s society. Lastly of course everyone hopes to leave college with a job or a potential job. So, I hope to gain a job in my profession and to become successful.- Chelsea Lambkin
One thing I hope to gain from my college experience other than education is connecting and networking with other people. Creating amazing friendships, maintaining new information for different opportunities, joining clubs and other activities. As well as setting and accomplishing short and long term goals. Since college is the next step of my life I will begin to do things on my own, I hope to guide myself to a successful path while creating a incredible memories. I am excited and can not wait to learn different things and hopefully make it to next year making this a unforgettable year as a freshman. - Juleinne Florentino
Besides an education there are multiple things I would like to gain from college. One of the things I would like to gain is the trait of being outgoing. I say this because I would describe myself as a little introverted and I know that to be the most successful in life I have to be more outgoing. I also hope to gain more connections with other people, because in today's world it's not always what you know, it is also who you know that can help you.
Besides a college education, I hope to gain basic life skills that I will take on with me after I graduate. Also, I hope to make connections that'll help me succeed with my career. I hope to build friendships and create bonds with different kinds of people that'll last a lifetime. Kean University is a very diverse school so I doubt I'll have a problem with that. I am also excited to learn to live on my own and be independent and not rely on my parents as much. Although, it is a big transition from high school, I'm excited to keep discovering what Kean has to offer all of their students and all the different opportunities they have to offer such as studying abroad in China. Theres a place for everyone here. - Arlene Grullon
Besides an education, I hope to gain time management skills, the ability to critical think, and solve problems effectively and efficiently. I hope to make connections with different people from different backgrounds and successfully balance my work life with my social life. Since I am in college and beginning to be on my own, it is important for me to have control of my life by becoming more responsible and by making the best out of any situation.-Tatyana Jackson
Education aside, the things I want to gain from college are many connections. In computer science knowing a lot of people is an important asset to have because any 1 problem can be tackled in so many different ways that multiple perspectives can instantly show all errors in the code, plus the computer science community is very open to working together to find a new breakthrough in the profession. I also want to meet and talk to many different people, the diversity that any college brings is always an interesting thing to see. A culmination of people and ideas all trying to help or save the world.
Besides an education, I hope to gain healthy relationships with my peers and my professors. I feel like this is an important factor in college because you would always have someone by your side. Creating new friendships is important in having the perfect college experience because you can meet new faces with diverse personalities and hopefully create an unbreakable bond. Creating a relationship with my professor is also an important factor to me because I know that if I needed the extra help and or if I am confused about a certain topic I can comfortably ask my professor for the help I need. I also plan on gaining many connections that pertain to my major that would help me in the future, for example, getting an internship that interests me and possibly obtaining a job in the future with that company. - Diana Nguyen
In the last year, I have grown and experienced many new things. One of which made me change my career path completely. All my life I've known I wanted to be in the medical field. However, the actual occupation would change with age. Last year, I decided after my first baby brother was born that I would become an OB/GYN. It's one of the first choices I've made in my life that I'm 100% sure about. The whole experience was new to me and fascinated on how one person could help bring a new life safely into the world.
Besides education, in college i hope to learn more experience about life. I have little experience about kean...i spent six weeks during the summer. So i pretty much know most part of the school. Besides going to clases, getting to know others, meet new faces. Me dorming is also gonna help me build stronger relations with people from different backgrounds and races. I hope this first week will be as interesting as the six weeks...or even better.
Besides an education I really hope to learn more about life and interact with many different people from varying areas and from different cultural backgrounds. I hope to make new friends and learn about their way of life and how they think. People have such an impact on other people and that's why communication with others is important. It's why icebreakers exist and why sometimes although we find it annoying, we are forced to interact with complete strangers. Not only do I hope to make new friends but also connections with my professors. It's so important to not only learn from your professors but also work with them to further yourself in your career. Lastly, I hope to learn more about managing my time. It's hard going to school, working, and keeping up with your social life all at the same time. It's stressful but possible.
While in college I hope to gain better study habits. I’m the most laziest student ever. I procrastinate everything literally and I hate doing work at times. While I was in the EOF/EEO summer program I told myself before It began that I wouldn’t treat it like high school. Of course I didn’t listen. Luckily sociology was easy, so was my math class, but I took it as a joke. My first test I got a sixty seven. I was so sad and did better next time. I received a C as the final grade and I was so devastated. My sociology grade brought it up luckily and I now have a three point zero. I got very lucky and that’s why I hope that my lesson will stick with me forever. Especially with my major being biology and wanting to get into John Hopkins medical school. I have to work hard and I just hope to get good study habits when I attend these tutoring sessions to improve myself for these next four years.
Other than an education, I hope to gain connections and a well paying job after graduation. One thing that I was taught from a young age is that it is not about the grades you make but the hands you shake. A lot of opportunity can be found in meeting new people. For instance, I moved to a new high school for my senior year. At the new school I was able to experience many different things and meet many new people that I would not have met if I stayed in my old school. I can use this experience and apply it to meeting people at Kean University. It is a transition that can be made better by having friends to talk with. Another benefit I plan to gain from attending Kean is a well paying job in the field of Environmental Science. I hope to come out of college with an internship to prove to companies that I have experience in the field.
