Blog post: please answer one question
1. Were you surprised by the amount of trash that made it into the river? Does the trash make you mad, sad, happy, or are you apathetic to litter in our natural environment? Just to point out...three soda cans were left by students in the grass on the side of the roadway after we spent time cleaning up the area. Please do not be afraid to tell your friends to pick up their trash!
2. Did the presidents speech (though long) make you more excited to be coming to Kean University? Why or why not? What opportunity that he mentioned were you most excited about?
I tried my best hearing, but it was kind of hard for me to hear what the president was saying. I kind of heard the pieces, bit by bit. But when they showed the slides or the videos, it made a little more sense of what he was talking about. Am I excited? Possibly. I don't know if I am going to participate in some of the activities or events, depending on how much work that I have, I'll see if I can participate as often as I could.
ReplyDeleteI was not surprised by the amount of trash in the river, I was actually expecting more trash. Seeing litter in nature in general makes me sad because people are just lazy and can't wait to throw things out. We only have one planet and we need to treat it with more respect. SInce I am an environmental major I will be dealing with this topic and it always upsets me. I wish there was a way to get all the litter out of the river and especially the ocean.

ReplyDeleteThe amount of trash in total collected by students was pretty scary, but it was particularly more than i expected. As people we do litter a lot especially in cities and open environments those less “green” areas seem to entice people to care less about how the places around them look. Personally my group and i didn't find very much trash which is why i used the terms total and collected, but we did make up for it by helping the people who set up the event for us. I wouldn't say i'm happy or sad, but i was definitely surprised to see that some of my peers found brooms and tires. We even found a shovel out there rusted from the river water.

ReplyDeleteI honestly wasn't surprised by the amount of trash in the river because most of the rivers are covered in trash. I hate that is the case because we need to learn to take of the earth more and not ruining it. I was surprised seeing pieces of garbage like a tire and a water board. I'm more confused on why people would throw stuff like that in the river. But I am happy that they're was less trash than I expected but of course we do a lot better by picking up our trash

I was not surprised about the amount of trash in the river. I honestly thought there would be more trash, but even the amount in there was too much. I'm always outdoors back at home and I've seen a good amount of trash whether its in the woods or down by the river, but there seemed to be more trash in this area than I am used to seeing I'm used to seeing tires and cans laying around, but there was everything in this river. It is never a good thing to litter in general, but having it in the water means it can travel more and end up wherever. The one positive thing I saw was there was small fish swimming around so at least the trash hasn't gotten so bad to the point that the wildlife in the area is dying and being greatly affected. We wouldn't have to worry so much if people just picked up their trash, but its easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteI was a little surprised by the amount of trash we had seen, mostly because since Kean speaks about helping the environment and respecting nature repeatedly so to see that not many people do that surprised me. Just seeing the endless amounts of trash was a real eye opener, it made me sad because their were literally trash cans on the way to and at the bridge, so for people not to just wait and throw out their trash in a civil manner was disappointing.
ReplyDeleteThe president's speech though rather long really did make me excited about this semester and my future at Kean. The part that stood out to me was our new China campus. I most definitely plan on going there my junior year just for fun and for the experience. I believe that going to China is a huge opportunity that I surely can not pass up. Also, I am very excited about the new improvements and positive changes that he plans to make on our campus not only for our class but future classes as well.-Chelsea Lambkin
ReplyDeleteThe president’s speech did make me more excited about going to kean. Kean offers alot to all of their students and they are beneficial. The campus in China caught my eye because I was planning on studying abroad so that I can experience places outside of the united states. When I heard about the campus in China and the opportunity to stay a semester there, It sounds like an opportunity that I will consider doing.
ReplyDeleteThe president's speech did make me more excited about coming to Kean. He spoke on many topics that I did not know Kean offered. Although, he spoke on a lot of different topics that the university has to offer, the one that stood out the most to be was studying abroad at Kean's campus in China. He definitely convinced me to do it and branch out and try a different environment than just the New Jersey campus. He answered a lot of my questions as well. Seeing all the students from China that came here for a semester motivated me to look into it and I definitely plan on going my sophomore year.
ReplyDeleteThe president’s speech did make me more excited about starting Kean because he introduces the school as a place that can make anyone succeed. He uses powerpoints that grabbed my attention because it highlighted the many attractions that Kean has to offer. The opportunity that he mentioned that caught my attention was the campus in China. For me, I feel like that would be an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity that could open up so many great connections which would benefit me in the future. When I am a junior, I would definitely try and be placed into that program because who else can say that they went to China in their lifetimes. - Diana Nguyen

I would like to join in many programs and be as involved as I can be, I can not wait to start this journey and make it a goal by my sophomore year to study in China. - Juleinne
ReplyDeleteI wasn't surprised at the amount of trash in the river. I have seen worst places with so much more trash. It is a little sad especially since I managed to catch sight of a deer on our way there. It was upsetting that the deer live in an environment with trash. It's also upsetting that after so much hard work some students would leave trash like that. It's something we all have to improve on. We have to work on protecting our environment and the habitats of animals.
ReplyDeleteThe president’s speech actually made me excited for school. He’s honestly a cool person when I first visited the school I talked to him, not knowing he was the president until he gave a speech, and he was very sweet and showed an actual interest in me. My major is Biology so when he brought up the renovation to a few classrooms it made me even more excited for my science classes. Those updates could help so much more in the classroom. I’m very excited to start this upcoming Tuesday due to his speech today.
ReplyDeleteIn my college decision making process, I knew Kean was going to be one of my top choices from the beginning. During the president's speech however, after he mentioned the new developments coming soon and the benefits of studying abroad its what got me more excited to be part of the university's little community. The fact that Kean allows students to attend the China campus with the same benefits as the main campus excited me the most and made me proud to have chosen such a student-oriented university.
ReplyDeleteI actually was surprised by the amount of trash in the river, I was expecting much more. My group had to actively search in deep brush for us to find trash. In past experiences I remember walking though paths in the woods and being overwhelmed my the amount of trash. Littering doesn't really make a lot of sense to me its never to difficult to wait a couple of minutes to find a garbage. I think if a person liters it shows there true nature as a lazy uneducated person.

ReplyDeleteWow!!..i wasn’t really surprised by the amount of trash that we found in the river. Actually i really enjoyed it - the experience.I met new people...kinda made new friends - ish.At some point the river was starting to stink. Yikes...the water got into my boots, which was really annoying and disgusting. I wasn’t mad at the trash, i was just surprised that we could find so much in it. People need to stop throwing their garbage in the river - water bodies, or on the floor. - David A.
The president's speech definitely made me more excited to be coming to Kean. I say this because the amount of school spirit going throughout the theatre was extremely visible and showed that people who were here in previous years are genuinely happy to be here. I am most excited about all of the new buildings that would be appearing on campus in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI was very enthralled by Dr. Farahi's speech. It was motivating to know that I am apart of something special here at Kean. I am mostly excited to be apart of his vision 2020 movement. The president and I share the belief that the youth is the future. He put up a picture of his grandchild who will be apart of the class of 2040. He is certainly looking ahead towards making the world a better place. I also aspire to do the same throughout my lifetime and to try and benefit society as a whole.
